Blueprint Restoration

Original Technical Archives

We keep a physical and digital library of 47 original technical manuals and blueprint scans from the late 1980s. When a car enters our Bristol workshop on Queens Square, we don't start by stripping it down blindly. We pull the specific blueprint for that chassis number. This allows us to see the exact millimetre measurements for subframes and the specific grade of steel used in the 1991 production run. If a component is missing or damaged beyond repair, we use these drawings to source a period-correct replacement from our global parts network. This isn't about making the car look new; it is about making it right.

Engine and Drivetrain Precision

A 1994 V12 engine does not behave like a modern unit. We use workshop-grade tools and diagnostic equipment that matches the original factory kit from that decade. Our team of 6 mechanics checks every single bolt against the original torque specs found in the manuals. For instance, on a recent engine rebuild for a 1989 supercar, we replaced 83 separate seals and gaskets to ensure the unit held oil pressure at exactly 3.2 bar during high-temperature testing. We avoid using modern generic parts that change the feel of the drive. Every shim and valve is set to the measurements dictated by the factory when the car first left the line.

Era-Correct Interior Materials

The feel of a 90s supercar interior is defined by specific textures that are hard to find today. We don't just 're-trim' a seat. We source leather hides with the exact grain pattern used by manufacturers in 1992. We also track down the specific plastics and adhesives that don't produce the 'sticky' finish common in poorly maintained 90s cars. Our workshop has a dedicated area for interior work where we match the stitch count per inch to the original factory seat covers. It often takes us 4 weeks just to find the right shade of carpet pile to match a specific 1988 production batch, but that is the level of detail required to maintain the car's value.

Complex 90s Electronics

The electronics from the 80s and 90s are some of the most difficult parts to fix because they rely on early circuit board designs. We don't just swap out old boards for modern tablets. We have a technician who specializes in repairing original ECUs and wiring looms. We use period-correct insulation and connectors to prevent the common electrical gremlins that plague these cars. In a project last October, we spent 12 days tracing a single fault in a pop-up headlight motor, eventually fixing it by replacing a specific resistor rather than cutting into the original wiring loom. This keeps the car's history intact.

Our Workshop Standards

  • All work follows the 1985-1998 factory service bulletins.
  • We use a global network to find 'New Old Stock' (NOS) parts.
  • Every restoration includes a 14-page technical report on torque settings.
  • Paintwork is matched using a spectrophotometer to 1990s color codes.
  • Final testing includes 47 individual point checks before handover.

By the way, we usually have a waiting list of about 3 months for full restoration projects because we only take on two major builds at a time. This ensures our lead mechanic can personally inspect every bolt. We won't rush a project just to get it out the door. If a part takes 6 weeks to arrive from Italy or Japan, we wait for the right part rather than fitting a 'near-enough' alternative. Honestly, this is the only way to ensure these legends stay on the road for another 30 years.

Project Timeline and Handoff

Most full blueprint restorations take between 9 and 16 weeks depending on parts availability. We provide a weekly update every Friday at 16:00 with photos of the progress. When the car is ready, we don't just hand over the keys. We walk you through the work performed, showing you the old parts we replaced and the blueprints we used. You get a bound folder with all the technical data from the rebuild. This documentation is vital for the car's provenance and future valuation at auction or private sale. Most of our clients see an immediate improvement in reliability after we've corrected the previous 'quick fixes' done by non-specialist garages.
